Transformers craziness (awesomeness) - 2 Prime examples.

Today I will be taking some of my nephews to see the new Transformers movie. Yay! Anyway, in my daily meanderings on the internets I happened across some great Transformers related craziness (by which I mean awesomeness!).

Let’s start with pictures of the National Guard soldier/fire fighter who legally changed his name to Optimus Prime. Not only is it amazing that someone actually changed their name to a cartoon character’s, but the soldier/fire fighter combination seems a great fit for a man who identifies with the leader of the autobots. Happy Native American Day!

I found out something new at work today. Today is the official Tribal Native American Day. Why Tribal you ask? Well, there are 2 “Native American Days“. The first is on October 12th. The perceptive among you will note that in most parts of the country October 12th means Columbus Day. While he was a great explorer and navigator, his governing of new world colonies led to the enslavement and slaughter of natives. The state of South Dakota officially recognizes October 12th as Columbus Day. The second is the official tribal Native American Day. It is celebrated on June 25th.

The most interesting point of this day is the historical event that caused this day to be tribal Native American Day. What event is that? Make a guess. You’ve all heard of the incident but I’m sure you don’t know the date or any specific details.

The reason June 25th is celebrated as Native American Day is because it’s the anniversary of Custer’s defeat at Little Big Horn.

Guess which gigantic internet company is building a complex in Council Bluffs. None other than my favorite internet company of them all, Google! Yay!

Why are they building in Council Bluffs? I don’t know. Maybe they’re going to begin indexing soy beans. Maybe they’re about to tailor a Gmail for hogs, piGmail, if you will. Or maybe they realized that Nebraska sucks. Either way, I’m happy.

The brontosaurus "charge".

I’m in a bit of a silly mood, so I thought I’d brag about my new credit card. Everyone in Valentine knows that the cheapest gas is at the Sinclair station by the Rosebud Casino. It’s on the highway between Valentine, where we live, and Mission, where we work. It’s become our haven fuel during the work week.

Well, being the financial wizard that I am, I decided to take advantage of this by ordering a couple of credit cards since using them will cut 7% off the top of our gas purchases. Now, the greatest thing about these cards is not their money saving potential, but the fact that they have a herd of brontosauruses in the picture.

As you might imagine, Lacey is not near as exctied by this as I am, but what does she know? I’m more than happy to sport dinosaurs on my credit card, and you should too.

Star Wars stamps! What’s your favorite?

Someone is obviously working at the Post Office, because they came up with a GREAT idea for a stamp collection. Right now you can get an entire book of Star Wars themed stamps!

And, on top of that fun, you can go online and vote for your favoite. I personally like the Han & Chewy stamp the best. What’s your favorite?

Middle Earth Continues

All of you Lord of the Rings fans will be excited to know that a new Tolkien book will be released on the 17th of April. It will be called the Children of Hurin. It’s set in Middle Earth, and the events happened sometime before the Lord of the Rings.

The book was taken from J.R.R. Tolkiens manuscripts and notes, and crafted together by his Son. Read the full story here.

The office

Sorry, this doesn’t have anything to do with the British/American sitcom. It does have everything to do with my office, though. Here are some pictures I took with Lacey’s camera, so that everyone can see it.

This is my desk. On the back wall is a painting that we recieved from one of our parents/students while in China. Oh, and that’s a Far Side Off the Wall calendar proudly displayed on the desk.

My chairs, and the door. The panda calendar is from Newton’s Panda Garden.

And one last shot with my Birthday balloon. Thanks mom.

Now, I ought to mention one thing. This will actually be my old office a few weeks from now. They’re going to let me move into one with a window!
