Pandas

without comments

We saw the pandas in Chengdu, and they're adorable.  They lay around and eat…that's about it.  I think I wish I were a panda.  Enjoy the video.

Random Zoo Animals on Vimeo

without comments

We got to the zoo a little bit late and weren’t able to see all the zoo animals. This is a random assortment of the ones we were able to see.

    Highlights include:

  • Andy quenching the monkeys thirst
  • The giraffe that licked me shortly after filming
  • And the angry lion you can’t see, but you can sure hear.

    Field Chicken

    without comments

At supper tonight we decided to sit down at a nice Chinese restaraunt.
The task is always a little daunting because the bigger the
restaraunt, the more mystery dishes we have to avoid. We started off
well, asking for a couple old favorites and pointing to pictures on a
    menu.

One item on the menu I pointed to and was told it contained beef.
Beef is good, I said, we’ll have that. The waitree came back and said
something to the effect of “we don’t have beef, would you like tian ji
instead”? Ji, of course, is chicken. We said OK and waited for our
    meal.

Literally tian ji means field chicken, otherwise known…FROG. We ate
frog tonight, the bone to meat ratio was very very low, but it was
tasty. And, it tases like chicken, field chicken.

    Alligator Show

    without comments

We saw this live performance at the Huangdao Zoo.  It's kind of strange, kind of intense.  At the end they stick their heads in the alligators mouth.  Good times.
